Parson Street logoImproving the teaching of Reading Comprehension skills from

Reception to Y6

Parson Street Primary school has a clear progression for the teaching of Reading Comprehension skills. Our recent Ofsted inspection stated ‘Reading is a strength of the school’. We use Reading Detectives skills cards to build children’s knowledge and understanding of the different skills required in order to answer a range of questions for various genres. We can offer support in a variety of ways that can be tailored for your school’s needs. We are still learning but we would like to share our learning with you and at the same time, learn from you.

Planning:

  • Raising the profile of reading – demonstrating successful strategies
  • 1:1 planning of individual lessons/series of lessons using Reading Detectives skills cards
  • Planning reading comprehension across the curriculum

  • Observations of how the teaching of reading skills can be integrated into a topic-based curriculum.
  • Our English Leader / Assistant Head can visit your school and teach a Reading Comprehension lesson to a class of your choice.

Staff development:
